A pre-apprenticeship course is a stepping stone to get into the industry of
your choice. Completion of a pre-apprenticeship course will help to:

• prepare you for the working environment in the selected industry
• give you some basic skills, or improve your existing skills
• pave the way for the learning you will get as part of your Apprenticeship.

It can be difficult for students to gain an apprenticeship through lack of experience in the field. Pre-apprenticeships assist by giving students theoretical experience in the industry.

Completing a course from the program can also provide exemptions from subjects studied in the first year of an apprenticeship. This means that while pre-apprenticeships involve extra study, they can actually cut the workload down in subsequent years.

There are many advantages of participating in a pre-apprenticeship.

It increases your competitiveness in getting an apprenticeship. You will have an edge over someone who is
untrained when applying for an apprenticeship with an employer if you can demonstrate you already have
   some skills.

A pre-apprenticeship course allows you to sample the trade before committing to an Apprenticeship or Training
Agreement with an employer. You can try a trade and see if it really suits you before committing to any
   further obligations.

A pre-apprenticeship teaches you some things you will learn as an apprentice, so you do not have to repeat
the components of units in which you achieve competency. Completion of a pre-apprenticeship course can
also decrease the length of the nominal time of the contract of training for the traditional apprenticeship.

It is always good to have contacts for future apprenticeship and employment opportunities. MEGT Institute
works closely with industry and our Group Training Division to provide opportunities for students to meet
and establish contacts with people in the trade industry.

At MEGT Institute, our students work on large size projects of varying degree, in our modern, secure facilities.
Contact your local MEGT Institute office for the Pre-apprenticeship programs available in your State or Territory.
